BEFORE YOU GO
There are certain things you need to check, like what to bring, what to wear and how to get there. Check out the answers to some of the questions you might have in your head as you get ready to go clubbing in Japan.

Are there age restrictions in Japan?
For the most part, you have to be above 20 years of age (which is the legal drinking/smoking age here) to enter the clubs. But some have it set lower, like 18. Be sure to bring your ID for these clubs. There are, however, clubs that don’t check for your age or ID.
Do I need to bring an ID? And what do they accept?
It is always recommended that you bring your ID to the clubs. The majority of the clubs in Japan check your ID at the entrance. Your ID must include your name, birth date and photo. Some of the things you could use for an ID are: Military ID, Gaijin Card or Passport. A US Drivers License is not good enough for some clubs, so try to bring one of the types of ID mentioned above.
How much money should I bring?
This, of course, varies with how much you drink and eat at the clubs. Some clubs have the “all-you-can-drink” system, so you can put your wallet away in the lockers. Other clubs charge between 500 – 700 yen per drinks. In any case, it’s always good to have some extra cash in case you need to buy that special girl a drink or take an early cab home to get away from that annoying guy. We recommend that you bring at least 10,000 yen to cover your clubbing expenses and “just in case.”
Is there usually a dress code?
Some fancy clubs do have a dress code, so you need to check in advance to make sure that you can get in with casual clothing. But for the most part, as long as you are dressed decently, they will let you in. It is recommended that you dress light since it gets really hot inside the clubs and you will regret the long-sleeved shirt you wore with nothing underneath.
How are most Japanese people dressed inside the clubs?
Japanese people, in general, are fashion conscious, and come dressed in the latest JAPANESE fashion styles. In most hip-hop clubs, they will be dressed in a style they pick up from watching Nelly and P Diddy in music videos. In house/trance clubs, Japanese girls often dance around with glowsticks in their hands, dressed in short skirts and knee high boots. But THE CUBBING SITE recommends that you wear a t-shirt/tanktop, a pair of jeans, and comfortable shoes for your night of clubbing. After all, you are there to dance and have a good time.
