Hip-Hop ruled the charts and on the dance floors in the year 2002. Most particularly, Eminem and Nelly had a really strong year. Eminem's "Without Me" from "The Eminem Show" and "Lose Yourself" from "8 Mile Soundtrack" as well as Nelly's "Hot In Here" and a duet with Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child, "Dilemma" (both on his second album, "Nellyville") were the songs that caught people's attention this year.
80s Popstar Kylie Minogue released two big club hits from her comeback album, "Fever." "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and "Love At First Sight" definitely got the clubbers moving on the floor. Speaking of come back, though not listed on our chart, Elvis made a surprise appearance on DJ's turntables thanks to the remix by JXL. "A Little Less Conversation" was a big hit during the summer.
Other big pop songs were Avril Lavigne's teen anthem, "Sk8ter Boi" and a strong shadow of the annoying Latin song, "Macarena," sung by three sisters, Las Kethcup, the song "Asereje" came pre-packaged with the dance that confused the hell out of everyone in the clubs. Only about 2% of the clubbers knew it and 83% of the people just pretended like they knew the Ketchup Dance. And the rest of 15% used that time for the bathroom break or bar break.
Trance or techno songs weren't as popular this year as last year where we heard "Sandstorm" every week at every club. "Heaven" by DJ Sammy got quite a bit of play over the year, and so did System F's "Dance Valley 2001". At this rate, maybe only one trance will make on the chart next year.
And last but not least, Linkin Park's melodramatic "In The End" got everyone chanting and rapping and screaming this year. Red Hot Chili Pepper's "By The Way" was also popular and got played during the rock time along with the usual Green Day and Offspring songs. |
